Johor Bahru Old Chinese Temple


Johor Bahru old Chinese temple is a Chinese temple located in Jalan Trus, the temple is flanked by modern skyscrapers. This temple is one of the oldest structures in Johor Bahru. The temple is a place of worship and a symbol of unity among Five Chinese Dialect Groups which are "Teochew", "Hoklo (Hokkien)", "Cantonese", "Hakka" and "Hainan".









The building style of the temple

The entire building of the ancient temple is designed according to the architecture of southern China, with a strong style of Chaozhou architecture. The ancient temple is divided into the front yard, the main building, the back yard and the wing room. Its roof design is gradually increased, that is, the roof of the front yard is the shortest, the roof of the main entrance of the hall is higher, the roof of the worship hall is higher, and the roof of the hall is the highest. This is a characteristic of traditional Chinese buildings, through the high and low levels of the roof to highlight the importance of the hall.

The Annual Chingay
Every year in the first lunar month of 20-23rd, the Temple organizes its annual Chingay known as the Parade of Deities. This is one of the important Chinese Traditional Festival in Johor. There are a lot of Malaysians even from other states will attend this festival. The Chingay parade lasts for four days. The climax of the parade is on the night of the 3rd day when the Deities parade around the Johor Bahru Town Centre.


All the follower will gather in these day to celebrate together, and this also called the big day of the Johorean.
